People in Swansea have been told by the Royal Mail that they may receive their post later than they currently do, as the Royal Mail goes about implementing its changes to its delivery times.
The Royal Mail says it is having to adapt to the changes the way its customers use its service, as parcel deliveries increase, and letter deliveries decrease.
In Swansea these changes are being introduced citywide, as the company implements the changes to its delivery schedules.
Although the Royal Mail says this move could also see some customers receive their mail earlier than they do now, the majority of mail deliveries will remain the same.
The Royal Mail sent householders explaining that it needs to modernise the way they operate. Citing that fewer letters are now posted every day, and that it needs to organise its delivery routes to be as efficient as possible.
Rising e-commerce sales also means that the Royal Mail also needs to deliver larger items more often and so it is investing in newer equipment to carry these goods.
The summation of this is that the time you receive your mail will depend on where you are located on the delivery route, and to some people this will mean a post delivery later or even earlier than before.
Of note is that the Swansea Postal Office also says that delivery times will vary depending on mail volumes.
These changes to the postal service in Swansea are just the latest of those being brought in by the Royal Mail.
As an example in November, the Royal Mail introduced trials for SA postcode areas, whereby large items were left with neighbours if the customer was out at the time of delivery.
